Roger Stillwell - Falsely Certified That No Gifts Received From Jack AbramoffRoger G. Stillwell was born on October 13, 1939. Stillman is an American Lobbyist and has worked with the Office of Insular Affairs under the administration of President George W. Bush. Office of Insular affairs is a part of the United States Department of Interior. Stillman was the Desk officer in charge of the Northern Mariana Islands. Previously he had also worked for a long time for the US House delegate from Guam Antonio Borja Won Pat. Stillman was charged with accusation of falsely certifying that he did not receive reportable gifts from Jack Abramoff. In the December 2005 issue of the Washington Post, it was reported that Stillman had accepted dinners at Abramoffs restaurant, signatures and tickets to Washington Redskin Games. Stillman accepted these in his interview but mentioned that all these were done while he was a contract employee at interior, not a federal worker. He also accepted sending Abramoffs copies of emails sent to his boss. However he said that he had not done anything wrong as none of these mails contained confidential information. Abramoff was against the passing of legislation that would put the Mariana Islands under ordinary US labor laws. He and the lobbying firms he worked with are alleged to have illegally funded many gifts and over billed the island (also their client). Though the exact role of Stillman in the proposed legislation is unclear, it was noted in the `Legal Times` that being responsible for the Northern Islands of Mariana, he would have had considerable involvement in any policy and legislation involving the area. On August 11, Stillwell pleaded guilty. |
