Misrepresentation of Cause of Death of Pat Tillman

Pat Tillman was born on November 6, 1976 in San Jose California. He was a professional American football player till 2002 when he left his established sports career to join the United States army. His brother Kevin Tillman also joined the army along with him.

Patrick Daniel Tillman died on April 22, 2004. He was the first professional football player to have died in combat since the death of Bob Kalsu who died in the Vietnam War in 1970. He is survived by his wife Marie.

As a line backer, Tillman started his football career in 1994 for the Arizona State University. He secured his place under scholarship. His performance as a line backer excelled though he was only 180cms (five feet eleven inches). He played alongside Jack Plummer. The duo also later on played as teammates on the hometown Arizona Cardinals. Tillman graduated with a GPA of 3.84 majoring in marketing. He was also voted the PAC-10 Defensive Player of the Year.

In May 2002, Tillman left his much established professional sports career to enlist in the United States Army along with his brother. His salary at the time as a football player was $512,000. He also turned down a three year long $3.6 million contract from the Cardinals to join the army. His brother, Kevin Tillman, also gave up his chance to become a professional baseball player. After completing their training, the two brothers were soon deployed in the Middle East for the Iraq invasion on 2003. Patrick was later redeployed to Afghanistan where he was killed in a friendly fire incident.

Tillman death has become a subject of much controversy and media attention. His family was notified by pentagon that he had died in a friendly fire incident, weeks after his memorial service. His family alleged that Department of Defense knowingly delayed the disclosure for weeks in order to protect its image of the US armed forces.
