Lewis Libby IndictmentLewis Libby Jr. was born on August 22 1950 in a `prosperous ` family in New Haven, Connecticut. His father was an investment banker. From2001 to 2005 Libby served as the Chief of Staff for the Vice President Dick Cheney, assistant to the Vice President for national security affairs and also an assistant to President Bush. He was indicted on five federal felony counts of obstruction of justice, making false statements and perjury in the Plame Affair and CIA leak grand jury investigation. He also became the first sitting White house official to be indicted in 130 years. The Plame affair involved leaking of the name of a covert CIA agent and compromising her identity and status, to the media. Libby resigned within hours of his indictment. Libby did his graduation from Eagle brook school in Deerfield Massachusetts in 1965. He graduated from the Yale University with a magna cum laude in 1972. It was here where Paul Wolfowitz, a professor, became his mentor and influenced his political thinking intensely. In1975, he earned his J.D degree from Columbia School of Law. Libby was a licensed corporate lawyer before being indicted. He was admitted to bars of Supreme Court of Pennsylvania and District of Columbia Court of Appeals. Following his indictment his license in both jurisdictions has been temporarily suspended. On March 6, 2007, Libby verdict was announced. He was held guilty of four of the five charges brought against him. He was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison and a fine of $250,000. There is no Parole in the Federal system .However Libby will be able to request an early release after two years. Though it has been reported that Libby plans to appeal the verdict, reports have also surfaced regarding a plea for Presidential Pardon. |
