Claude Allen Arrested For TheftClaude Alexander Allen served in the white house as the assistant to the President George W. Bush for his domestic policy. Allen was appointed to this post in January 2005. He resigned from his post on February 9 2006 stating that he wanted to spend more time with his family. However, it was later reported that he had been charged with accusations of theft and ` felony theft scheme`. On March 9 2006 he was arrested. Claude Allen was also the former nominee for a judgeship on the United States Court of appeal for the Fourth circuit. A conservative African American republican, Allen is a native of Philadelphia. He did is B.A from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Allen is married and was drawing an annual salary of $161,000 from his federal job at the time of his resignation. On January 2, 2006, Claude Allen was detained by retail store security guards at Gaithersburg Target. On March 9 2006 he was subsequently arrested for series of similar alleged thefts. Police claimed that he committed refund theft which is a criminal act of returning goods fraudulently to the stores for cash. Police say that he has credited more than $5000 to his credit card from similar transactions at other stores. Allen pleaded guilty to these charges on August 4, 2006. During his emotional hearing, he apologized to his family and friends for his actions. He was sentenced to 18 months of “Probation before judgment”. This means that his records will be expunged of any crime if he successfully completes his probation. Nonetheless his actions of theft are bizarre given that his annual salary as an advisor was $161,000. |
